About the Team
We are a dedicated team of engineers and researchers from Brubotics, the robotics research group at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Driven by a passion for innovation and human-centred technology, we aim to improve lives through advanced robotics.
At Brubotics, our team of over 100 researchers is not just pushing the boundaries of human-robot interaction, but also making a tangible difference in people's lives. We specialise in developing state-of-the-art technologies, including robot-assisted prostheses, exoskeletons, artificial intelligence, and next-generation assistive devices. These innovations are not just cutting-edge science, but practical solutions that are transforming healthcare, mobility, and beyond. CYBATHLON allows us to share our vision for the future of assistive devices.

About the Pilot
Michel Jacques is a Belgian passionate about hiking, travelling, and making videos. He lives in Haltinne, a village in the Namur province, and is getting ready to launch his own freelance video production company. Along with his videography journey, he also plays a big role in Amptraide, a non-profit that supports amputees, where he serves as an administrator. He likes to challenge himself, and he is motivated to participate in the CYBATHLON.
About the Device
The prosthesis is an active transfemoral prosthesis with two active degrees of freedom: an active ankle and active knee joint. The prosthesis contains all of the computing and battery power for the user, as well as the ability to communicate directly with an array of IMUs used to measure the torso and limb behavior and a force sensor to measure prosthesis forces. The drives are electric motor-based, and the ankle uses a beamspring in parallel and series functions.
