About the Team

UBC Bionics, a student-led engineering design team at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Our team is comprised of passionate undergraduates focused on the advancement of bionics to restore human physiology. Currently, we are prototyping GRASP: a trans-radial smart bionic arm designed to improve the daily life of amputees. In October 2024, we will submit GRASP to CYBATHLON as the only undergraduate Canadian team.

About the Pilot

Albert Atkinson joined UBC Bionics' GRASP team to explore student innovations within the bionics and prosthetics field. He is a bilateral amputee and was one of the first myoelectric prosthetic arm users in Canada. He has provided consistent support throughout the design process by giving the team feedback and advice based on his previous experience with prosthetic arms.
