Samuele Maltauro: The Pilot of the POLIMI FES Bike Race for CYBATHLON 2024
13th May 2024Samuele Maltauro joined the POLIMI FES Bike Race team in 2023, just one year following a spinal cord injury due to a motorbike accident. Since then, he has demonstrated exceptional talent and remarkable skill through his unwavering commitment to training. Mark your calendars for the spectacular CYBATHLON 2024 event from 25 to 27 October, where Samuele, the shining star from Lecco Polytechnic, will astound audiences in the FES Bike Race.
Samuele's journey to CYBATHLON 2024 is a testament to resilience and innovation. After a life-altering accident in March 2022, Samuele, unable to walk, found solace and strength through the revolutionary work of researchers at Lecco Polytechnic. Now, he's set to conquer the CYBATHLON stage, pedalling towards victory with unwavering determination.
In preparation for the main event, Samuele has been excelling his skills through CYBATHLON Challenges and undergoing rigorous training, showcasing his prowess alongside global competitors. Recently, at the CYBATHLON Challenges 2024, he secured a commendable second place, proving his mettle as a force to be reckoned with.
Leading the charge behind Samuele is Professor Emilia Ambrosini, from the WE-COBOT laboratory, guiding him and the POLIMI FES Bike Team towards excellence. Together, they're pushing boundaries, not just for victory, but to revolutionise assistive technologies and inspire communities worldwide. "It was one of those days that reminds me how privileged I am to be doing this work,” she comments on being part of the team and participating in the Challenges. Further emphasises “On the one hand, I am training the biomedical engineers of tomorrow and, on the other, I am putting research truly at the service of the community.”
