About the Team
Sight Guide is a pioneering team committed to revolutionizing assistive technologies for the visually impaired. Our team is a dynamic alliance of three leading research institutions in the canton of Zurich, namely the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), ETH Zurich, and the University of Zurich. The collaboration is spearheaded by esteemed Professors Alireza Darvishy, Hans Wernher van de Venn, Roland Siegwart, and Davide Scaramuzza. These mentors, along with a cadre of promising students, bring a wealth of expertise in autonomous systems and mechanical engineering, providing the foundation for our cutting-edge research and development efforts.
Our mission is to design innovative solutions that enhance the lives of those affected by vision loss, with a particular focus on alleviating common everyday challenges faced by blind individuals. We are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of assistive technology, creating tools that allow users to navigate and interact more freely with the world around them.

About the Pilot
Lukas Hendry from Düdingen is the skilled pilot for the Sight Guide team at the Cybathlon. Despite having no functional vision, Lukas can sometimes distinguish between light and dark. A former Paralympian, he holds the Swiss long jump record of 6.01 metres. Lukas's competitive spirit and athletic background make him an ideal candidate for the Vision Assistance Race. His collaboration with the team, providing valuable feedback on the usability of the device, was crucial to the development of an effective navigation system.
About the Device
The Sight Guide Alpha is an innovative navigation system designed to enhance the mobility of visually impaired people. It combines advanced sensor technology with a powerful computing platform to create detailed maps of the environment in real time. This innovative device processes complex spatial data and translates it into intuitive feedback for the user. Compact and ergonomic, the Sight Guide Alpha represents a major leap forward in assistive technology. As the team prepares for the Cybathlon, this device demonstrates the potential to transform the way visually impaired people navigate their world.
